Excelsior's Story
Excelsior Orthopaedics was officially formed in 2002, however its roots date back to the 1960s. From the beginning, the physicians and medical professionals involved in this vision have been committed to offering the most advanced, compassionate, comprehensive musculoskeletal care in Western New York. Today, Excelsior is the product of several mergers and transitions. The result is a practice that is 100% owned and operated by the physicians who treat patients here each day. This physician-owned model allows for physicians and caregivers to offer patients the care and attention they deserve, each and every visit.
Leading Orthopaedic Care
Over time, what began as two small orthopaedic practices has become an area leader for musculoskeletal care and innovation, including advanced surgery techniques, a free-standing ambulatory surgery center that is home to WNY’s first comprehensive outpatient total joint program, an impressive suite of in-house services such as physical and occupational therapy, durable medical equipment, nutrition counseling, imaging and more. With an expanding geographic footprint and over 20 years of excellence, Excelsior Orthopaedics has become a community hub for sports performance, athletic training, and youth sports support. Excelsior was proud to be the first in the area to open an orthopaedic express care center and expand that single clinic bay to now offer four prominent orthopaedic express care centers. As reflected in the mission and core values, Excelsior is committed to innovative care that is driven by patient needs and supported by the most skilled, experienced team in Western New York.

The Hand Center formed through Millard Fillmore Hospital, UB Med, & hand surgeons
1989
The Hand Center became ACGME Accredited for hand surgery fellowships
1995
Northtowns Orthopaedics is founded
1996
Began creating a plan to merge
1998
WNY Ortho granted rights to in-house surgery
2000
Developed ambulatory surgery center, which became Buffalo Surgery Center
2002
Officially merged, formed Excelsior Orthopaedics LLP
–8 surgeons, 40 staff
–Broke ground at 3925 Sheridan
2012
Millard Fillmore Hospital closes, The Hand Center merges with Excelsior
2015
Outpatient Total Joint program founded
June 2019
Excelsior merges with Northtowns Ortho, adding 10 surgeons

New PT office opened in Downtown

Secondary PT/OT office opens in Orchard Park
