X-rays help us see if bones have been fractured or joints dislocated. They can also show fluid build up, bone infections, arthritis, growths and other bone damage. We have several advanced x-ray machines for both upper and lower extremities. An x-ray is often the first diagnostic tool for extremity pain. We have x-ray facilities and equipment at all of our locations.

That means you don’t have to leave to get the scans you need for diagnosis - which speeds up the process and keeps you moving. Imaging is often the most effective diagnostic tool - and it’s totally pain-free.

X-Ray
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Ultrasounds allow us to see inside your body in real time. We use point-of-care ultrasounds, which are easy to use for any type of appointment. Ultrasounds use high-frequency sound wave signals converted into 2D images that show us abnormalities in tendons, ligaments, soft tissue and bone surfaces, and some nerve conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome. This technology is also used to help guide precise joint injection therapies. Excelsior has ultrasound units at all of our locations.
MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) gives us the most comprehensive view inside your body. MRIs are often used to get more information about issues identified during an x-ray, ultrasound or CT. At Excelsior, MRIs are used to check for arthritis, cartilage problems, ligament and tendon tears, or other more complex musculoskeletal issues. Our MRI units are located at our Amherst campus, as well as our Orchard Park facility.
Excelsior Orthopaedics’ MRI facility is accredited by the American College of Radiology.
Certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Excelsior is proud to have members of our team certified by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). ARDMS credentials represent the highest level of competence in the medical-imaging modality of musculoskeletal ultrasound. This certification allows physicians to perform and interpret point-of-care ultrasounds to diagnosis a wide variety of soft-tissue injuries.
